Image downstream showing the sharp eastward bend at Bushkill Park. Note the hemlocks along the streambank and the small tributary entering from the right.
Bushkill Creek at Walters Meadow. The exact location of the image is unknown, as the Walter family owned land all along the creek in the area that is now Edgewood Avenue. Image included because it shows hemlocks along the stream.
View of Lachenour Farm on the west bank of the creek, Palmer Township. Later the bridge became the entrance to Bushkill Park. The area is now an upscale subdivision.
Ivana Königsmarková was sued by the government in 2009 after delivering a baby with complication that later died in hospital. In 2014 she was finally cleared of all charges after spending around 2 weeks in jail and being issued a 2.7 million Crown fine. People gave stories of home births on this website in an outpouring of support for Ivana on this web page which advocated for the dismissal of all charges.
Image of Veile Brewery high on the west bank of Bushkill Creek. The site is just downstream of the Butz dam. The brewery operated from ~1850 to 1940. According to one account, brewing waste was dumped on the creek bank.
A Prague based organization committed to advocating for access to safe home births. They have been trying with much difficulty to get a birth center located legally within the confines of a hospital. The full name in Czech is Porodní Dum U Čápa. They describe themselves as "a non-profit organization founded as a public benefit corporation that
seeks to return to natural births Czech obstetrics." Established in 2002.
Image of Butz's Dam from the southwest. The dam is still present, backing up the stream to the Cemetery Bridge. Note the Lehigh Valley Railroad station, and the steeple of South College in the far background.
View of Wagener Dam and home from across the stream. Dam is no longer present. There were apparently two dams at this bend in the stream - it is not clear which one is pictured. The Rinek rope factory building in the background is still present on Bushkill Drive. The Wagener Dam and property along the stream was purchased by Lafayette College in 1929 with the idea of generating hydroelectric power (Gendebien report).
View of Grotzinger's Mill at the base of College Hill ca 1900. View appears to be southward, with Bushkill Creek flowing right to left. Remains of this dam are still visible. The first saw mill in Easton was built at this site in 1762 (Hope and Hope, 2012)
View of Cemetery Bridge from the north. Showing Lehigh Valley RR tracks on the left bank. This part of the RR is now a paved path along Bushkill Drive.
Postcard view eastward of Mt Jefferson and Bushkill Creek. Lafayette in the background. Mt. Jefferson is the high hill behind the Easton Public Library.
