Description
-
Beige, sand-like kapa handcrafted from inner bark of wauke (Broussonetia papyrifera), smooth to the touch, despite the presence of intricate holes. A note in the archival register indicates that this specimen was collected during the nineteenth century. Kapa was used for three types of clothing: men's loincloths, women's skirts (which were sometimes wrapped many times around the body), and capes or cloaks that often revealed more valuable feathered cloaks. Kapa was also used as room dividers or decorations in houses.
