Title
Chondrite-Normalized MORB REE Diagram
Description
This Chondrite-normalized REE Diagram shows the compatibility of the Lanthanide Series in a MORB. Representative dataset is based on wt % SiO2. The lines slope slightly to the right, suggesting that the smaller elements in the Lanthanide contraction are more compatible, in agreement with Goldschmidt's second rule. However, for most of the samples (except 10% wt SiO2) the lines don't slope significantly, suggesting that there isn't much variability in the compatibility of these elements in MORBs. Because the lines are all well above 1, the elements are incompatible in a MORB. This is typical of a MORB, as its magma source is already depleted in incompatible elements.
