Part of Mid-Ocean Ridge Tectonic Setting: Fast Spreading Ridge
- Title
- Cross Section of a Fast Spreading Ridge
- Description
- Fast spreading ridges have a steady state axial magma chamber with frequent fissure eruptions. Here, the thermal budget drives spreading, so the ridge rides high on the lithosphere is warm and buoyant. There is also minimal faulting as the crust is ductile. While some normal faulting occurs, the flanks of these axes remain smooth, as they are quickly overlain by sheeted lavas.
