Part of Austral-Cook Island Arc: Geochemical Plots
- Title
- Total Alkali and CaO vs. SiO2
- Description
- The samples from the Austral Cook volcanic arcs are fairly split between alkaline and subalkaline (although there are slightly more subalkaline samples) I suggest that the lack of a cohesive trend here is due to the three plumes that have sourced eruptions from this chain. As discussed in the magma generation setting, the three proposed plumes come from a very heterogeneous superplume, resulting in magmas of very diverse composition in similar localities.
